To further advance the construction of the Leizu School, promote international educational cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, and explore international pathways for school-enterprise collaborative talent cultivation, a delegation comprising Chen Qian, Head of the Tourism Management Programme at the School of Culture and Tourism; Tang Meng, a faculty member from the School of Architecture and Environmental Engineering; and Li Yinan, a faculty member from the Office of Industry-Education Exchange, visited Laos from 20 to 24 July local time to conduct exchange and visit activities. This visit centred on the implementation of the Leizu School, focusing on issues such as international student recruitment, overseas faculty training, and talent services for companies expanding overseas. The delegation conducted systematic research and practical exchanges, laying a solid foundation for our university to further advance overseas education and China-Laos industry-education integration cooperation.
On the morning of 21 July, the delegation made its first stop at the China-Laos Friendship School, where they held in-depth discussions with the school's principal, Zhang Tingjiang, and school principal Li Zhiming. Both sides discussed the details of the joint admission plan to be launched in the autumn semester of 2025 and reached a preliminary consensus on admission promotion strategies, student selection methods, and programme offerings. The delegation also conducted an on-site admission presentation for Laotian students currently enrolled at the China-Laos Friendship School, providing a systematic introduction to the history, programme specialties, scholarship policies, and student development pathways of Chengdu Textile College. Chen Qian, the programme director of the School of Culture and Tourism, provided a detailed introduction to the curriculum, employment prospects, and international cooperation initiatives of our tourism management programme, sparking strong interest among the students present in studying abroad in China. This promotional activity not only enhanced the Laotian students' understanding of our institution but also helped them clarify their future career development directions. Additionally, it provided our institution with a more direct understanding of the current state of tourism management talent cultivation and industry development needs in Laos.
On the afternoon of the same day, the delegation visited the Oudomxay Branch Factory of Yunnan Dianyuan Rubber Technology Co., Ltd. for an on-site survey and was warmly received by the company's manager, Wu Xue Liang. Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on the current state of development and skilled talent needs in industries such as manufacturing and agricultural processing in Oudomxay Province, Laos. The company stated that there is an urgent need for technical personnel with practical skills and proficiency in both Chinese and Lao languages in fields such as rubber processing, mechanical maintenance, and safety management. This exchange provided valuable insights for our university to further optimise the curriculum for international students and develop ‘customised’ talent cultivation programmes.
On the morning of 22 July, the delegation members split into two groups and visited the China-Laos Friendship School again to conduct targeted recruitment promotion and on-site Q&A sessions, engaging in face-to-face exchanges with over 70 Laotian students interested in studying in China. The teachers provided detailed explanations on the school's overall situation, vocational course systems, scholarship policies, and student employment support services, helping the students gain a more comprehensive understanding of the opportunities and prospects for studying in China. The on-site atmosphere was lively, with students actively asking questions and demonstrating strong interest. Many students expressed a strong desire to pursue further studies in China to enhance their competitiveness.
On 23 July, the delegation departed for Vientiane, the capital of Laos, to visit the Language College of the National University of Laos. They held discussions with university representatives including College Dean Mi Sai, Deputy Dean Peng Wenbo, Deputy Director of the Planning and Cooperation Department En Xi, and Director of the Chinese Language College Song Shaonan (THONGMIXAY SAONAKHONE). Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on the construction of the ‘Chinese Language + Innovation and Entrepreneurship’ curriculum system at the Leizu School, joint teacher training, and teacher exchange mechanisms. The Lao side highly praised our university's efforts in industry-education integration and China-Laos educational cooperation, and expressed a strong willingness to deepen cooperation.
This visit is an important initiative by our university in actively responding to the national ‘Belt and Road’ initiative and serving the international development of vocational education. It fully demonstrates our university's strategic determination to advance the construction of overseas campuses and strengthen its ‘going global’ service capabilities. Through this research and discussion, the delegation not only established efficient communication mechanisms with multiple parties but also gained a deep understanding of the latest needs of Laos' education sector and businesses. Additionally, it provided valuable experience and firsthand information for our university's future efforts in recruiting Laotian international students, promoting overseas teacher training, and implementing joint educational programmes between China and Laos.
In the future, our university will continue to leverage its professional advantages as a higher vocational institution specialising in textiles and apparel, aligning with the actual talent needs of Laos' socio-economic development. We will persistently advance the ‘university-government-enterprise’ three-party collaboration, explore localised talent cultivation mechanisms adapted to regional development, and support the steady overseas expansion of more ‘going global’ enterprises. Additionally, our university will further deepen strategic cooperation with Laotian educational institutions, enrich the core idea of China-Laos cultural exchanges, and enhance the international influence and brand image of Sichuan vocational education.
