To deepen the understanding of advanced international vocational education practices and promote the reform and internationalization of tourism-related programs, from November 2 to 22, 2025, Peng Shiming, a teacher from the School of Foreign Languages and Cultural Tourism of Chengdu Textile College, participated in a 21-day vocational education training program in Singapore as a member of the 16th cohort of the National “Craftsmen’s Masters” Innovation Team. The program was organized by the Ministry of Education and hosted by the China Education Association for International Exchange. Tourism-oriented “dual-qualified” teachers from 19 vocational colleges across the country joined the training, exploring advanced pathways for high-quality vocational education through theoretical study, practical visits, and cultural immersion.

During the training, participants systematically studied Singapore’s vocational education policies, problem-based learning (PBL), dual-qualified faculty development, education quality assurance mechanisms, and the application of digital and AI technologies in teaching. The courses were jointly delivered by Nanyang Technological University, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, and the Institute of Technical Education (ITE). The curriculum was closely aligned with the needs of vocational education reform, featuring strong practical orientation and high professional relevance.
In addition to theoretical learning, the team visited various institutions, including the ITE Training Centre, the Hotel and Tourism Management Training Base at Republic Polytechnic, the Industry Collaboration Centre at Singapore Polytechnic, the Singapore campus of the École hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL), the Singapore Tourism Board, and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Singapore. Through these visits, observations, and exchanges, participants gained an in-depth understanding of Singapore’s “dual-mentor system,” Work-Based Learning (WBL), and the Integrated Work-Study Programme (IWSP), and experienced their systematic and mature approaches to curriculum design, learning support, and competency development.

During the study visits, our faculty engaged in in-depth discussions with experts from Singaporean vocational institutions on topics such as pathways for implementing industry-education integration, mechanisms for school–enterprise collaborative training, and competency-based curriculum development. Both sides compared the policies, industry participation, curriculum systems, and teaching models of the two countries, and explored potential cooperation in joint curriculum development, student internships, and employment. These exchanges opened new opportunities for the school to deepen international cooperation and expand resource sharing.

Through this overseas training, our teacher achieved significant improvement in understanding cutting-edge concepts in vocational education, applying practical methods for curriculum reform, innovating practical teaching design, and strengthening cross-cultural collaboration skills. The program not only broadened professional perspectives and industry insight, but also provided valuable experience and resources for the school’s cultural tourism program development, deepening industry–education integration, and enhancing internationalization.
Looking ahead, our faculty will focus on translating training outcomes into actionable practices. Guided by innovative teaching models, high-quality resource integration, and strengthened school–enterprise collaboration, the school will promote the localized application and broader influence of the advanced concepts and methods gained through the program. At the same time, a stronger results-sharing mechanism will be established to elevate the overall teaching quality and talent cultivation capacity of cultural tourism programs, providing sustained momentum for the school’s program development and core competitiveness.
