Local time on April 17, the highly anticipated 2026 Paris Book & Culture Festival grandly kicked off at the Grand Palais in Paris, France. Within this global cultural gala, China Through Ancient Books — Exhibition of Vocational Education Achievements on Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage, guided by the Import and Export Administration of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and organized by the China Vocational Education Society, was held concurrently.

The university’s Shu Brocade and Shu Embroidery project was selected as an outstanding vocational education achievement of intangible cultural heritage and made a high-profile debut at the event. At the Chinese exhibition area in the Grand Palais, our university’s booth drew large crowds of visitors. Ma Dekun, master of Shu Brocade from the Key Laboratory for Digital Protection and Inheritance of Embroidery Intangible Cultural Heritage (under the Sichuan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism), showcased the artistic charm of Shu Brocade weaving craftsmanship and the rich color variations of weft-woven works to global exhibitors through physical displays and vivid on-site explanations.

This remarkable international debut is no accident. Starting from January this year, the China Vocational Education Society launched a national selection for vocational colleges to participate in the French exhibition with extremely rigorous criteria. Selected projects were required to feature unique artistic styles, profound cultural connotations, solid talent cultivation foundations, and a full demonstration of the Chinese spirit. Faced with this national-level cultural exchange mission, our university conducted overall planning and meticulous preparation. Rooted in the profound heritage of Shu Brocade and Shu Embroidery intangible cultural heritage, our university stood out from numerous applicants and secured the qualification to exhibit in Paris. This fully recognizes our university’s intangible cultural heritage education outcomes and comprehensive school-running strength.

Craftsman spirit endures, and cultural heritage passes down from generation to generation. This Paris appearance marks a new leap in our university’s educational strength and global cultural influence.
Moving forward, taking this opportunity, our university will further deepen teaching reform on textile intangible cultural heritage, comprehensively elevate the internationalization of vocational education, and strive to build leading platforms for the inheritance of textile ICH, the cultivation of technical and skilled talents, and cultural exchange and communication. With firm cultural confidence, we will promote fine traditional Chinese culture to the world and contribute the wisdom and strength of Chengdu University of Light Industry to exchanges and mutual learning among global civilizations.
